Best Part Cutting Practices

  • Stay in the area.
  • Watch the part being machined.
  • The white cross on the MAKE preview window will move to reflect the current position of the nozzle on the part.
  • If the machine must be paused for any reason, click Pause in MAKE while the part is cutting.
    • The Space bar will also pause the machine.
    • CAUTION
      • If the software is locked up or frozen, clicking Pause or pressing the Space bar may not pause the machine. In this case, you must lift the lid to stop the machine.
    • If you need to stop the machine during the Homing procedure, press the Space bar or the Esc key. Lifting the lid will NOT stop the machine in this case.
    • Everything you need to know about pausing the machine can be found here.
  • Monitor the abrasive level and add as needed.

Keypad Shortcuts

ProtoMAX_Numeric_Keypad.png
  • Num Lock on — Bump Mode
    • With the Num Lock key on, press the slash (/) key to enter Step mode. In Step mode, you move the nozzle one motor step at a time, the smallest possible distance you can move the nozzle.
    • With the Num Lock key on, press the asterisk (*) key to enter Bump mode. Bump mode moves the nozzle by a small amount, 0.125 inches (3.175 mm). Use the keys on the numeric keypad to move the nozzle—the numbers above the letters on the regular typewriter keyboard won't move the nozzle.
  • Num Lock off — Jog Mode
    • 2 — Down
    • 4 — Left
    • 6 — Right
    • 8 — Up
  • Additional movement options can be found here.
